Ok now you have reviewed your credit report and you are not sure if you have any inaccurate information on your report. Many people have inaccurate information on their credit report. You can dispute this inaccurate information with the credit bureau and they will attempt to verify the information with the source. If this is a collections agency they are often unable to verify this information within 30 days time frame allowed by law and the information will automatically be removed in your favor. This is the easiest way to delete collections on your report.

Do you notice any incorrect names, addresses, employers, or even social security numbers? When you fill out a paper credit

application a human normally has to go enter that information into a computer to pull your credit history which can account for typos. These typos will show on our credit report as variations of your name and will sometimes even show up as a second social security number! If you have any of this inaccurate information on your credit report you should get that resolved as soon as possible especially if you have an incorrect social security number. This can prevent major headaches down the road. Now review the accounts on your credit report. Creditors report updates to the credit bureaus about the status of your account periodically. Some may report monthly, yearly or just once and never provide an update again! You can use this to your advantage. For example let’s say you have a collection account that appears on your credit report with a balance of $1088. You just called the company over the phone and you verified that your balance was $1109 because they assessed more late fees and interest. Now it looks like that account on your credit report is inaccurate. You could now dispute this account with the credit bureaus stating that "You do not have an account with that balance."

Now that you have successfully determined what information is inaccurate on your credit report you are ready to dispute this information and get it corrected. Please check out the article titled "How to remove inaccurate and derogatory information on your credit report"
